Flash Cards for Intermediate Algebra

This site was created by Donna Hiestand-Tupper to help you learn the vocabulary and give you the practice you need  to be successful in Intermediate Algebra.  However many of the topics can be applied to other Math courses.  You will need to have the Flash plug-in in order to view the flash cards below.   To download the plug-in, go to the Macromedia website.


 

General Review:

Vocabulary:  These flash cards will help you identify key words and phrases used in many word problems.  Being able to identify these key words will help you set up your word problems.

Graphing Vocabulary:  These flash cards will help you learn the new vocabulary associated with graphing and finding the equation of a straight line.

Slopes of a Line:  These flash cards will give you practice in finding the slope of a line.

Finding the Equation of a Line:   These flash cards will give you practice in finding the equation of a line.   Use either the point-slope formula or the slope-intercept formula to find the equation of the line.

Translating Math Problems:  These flash cards will help you translate common English phrases into Algebraic statements.  Knowing how to do this makes solving word problems a lot easier.

Percentages and Decimals: These flash cards will give you practice in converting percentages to decimals and decimals to percentages.


UNIT 1:

Functions: These flash cards will test your knowledge on domain, range, function, relation, vertical line test etc.

Domain and Range:  These flash cards will give you practice on determining the domain and range of a function.

Scientific Notation: These flash cards will test your ability to convert a number from standard form to scientific notation and back.

Polynomials:  These flash cards will make sure you understand the vocabulary used when discussing polynomials.

 


UNIT 2:

Special Factoring Formulas: These flash cards will give you extra practice on factoring the special cases.  Included are the sum and difference of perfect cubes, the difference of perfect squares and perfect square trinomials.

Reducing Rational Expressions:  These flash cards will give you practice in both factoring and reducing rational expressions.

 


UNIT 3:

Simplifying Radicals:  These flash cards will give you practice in simplifying radicals.

Simplifying Complex Numbers:  These flash cards will give you practice in dealing with the powers of "i".

Arithmetic and Complex Numbers:  These flash cards will give you practice in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing complex numbers.   Make sure you have your calculator available.
