Properties of Logarithms


For questions 1 - 3, use the properties of logarithms to expand each of the following.

1.  log b (x8 y9 z10).

 8 log b x  * 9 log b y  * 10 log b z
 log b x 8 + log b y 9 + log b z 10
 8 log b x  + 9 log b y  + 10 log b z

2.

   0.5 log b x + 0.5 log b y2
   0.5 log b x + log b y
  log sqrtx + log sqrt(y-squared)

3. log ((x^2 * y) / z^4)

  2 log b x + log b y - 3 log b z
  2 log b x + log b y -  log b z3
  log b x2 + log b y -  log b z3

For questions 4 and 5, contract the following logarithms.

4.  3 log x + log y - 4 log z

log( (x^3 * y) / z^4)
log(x^3 * y - z^4
log( (x*y/z)^(3/4))


5. 1/8 [ log x - log y}

 log(x/8) - log (y/8)
log(x/y)^(1/8)
 log( (xy)/8)
