Workshops
1.) Evan Balkan: “How to Get Published”
You've written something spectacular. Now you want to see it in print. In this workshop, learn how to identify markets, write a proper query letter, and navigate the "business" side of writing and publishing.
2.) Annie Nguyen: “Non-fiction”
Writers often use personal experience to inspire or inform their writing. In this workshop, you will learn the art of writing about truth and personal experience in a way that is both engaging and informative to your readers. Please bring an object of personal value to you, and know as much as you can about this object.
3.) Anne Roberts: “Transmogrifications”
Develop your power to change the world by the sheer force of imagination. The basic sleight-of-hand used by artists to transform their environment is, of course, just a trick. Discover the power to make others see the world as you see it through metaphor. We'll transmogrify our drab classroom through the power of visual metaphor. The only thing you'll need for this trick is a roving imagination, a pen, and paper.
4.) John Stinson: “The Environment of the Short Story”
In fiction, physical environs can be described and used in ways that advance character development and the themes of a work. This workshop will introduce environment as a vital component to the crafting of short fiction and offer a few strategies for using it to best effect.
