COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This course will help you to develop academic and practical writing skills. You will be encouraged to create well-organized pieces of writing that are coherent, unified, correct, and appropriate for specific contexts. In honing writing skills, you will create at least four multi-paragraph essays geared toward a prescribed audience and purpose. You will be graded on your writing, your class participation, and your attendance.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
1. Students will use the 5 stages of the writing process (brainstorming, planning, drafting, revising, editing) to create clear and focused texts.
2. Students will gain competence in research methods and in the proper way of incorporating information from a variety of outside sources in their writing projects.
3. Students will employ language that is appropriate for varying purposes and audiences.
4. Students will learn to find and correct grammar, punctuation, and usage errors in their own writing.

In addition to participating actively in the learning process during each class period by coming prepared with required materials, you will be graded on the following:

· Late papers will not be accepted without making prior arrangements with me. I will only make arrangements for handing in assignments late under extenuating circumstances. If you are having an issue, or if you think you will not be able to hand in an assignment on the date it is due, please talk to me so that we can resolve your issue.
