World Wide Web Assignment (30 points)     Please submit all papers to my e-mail account!
The General Idea : You are to find information on a topic and write a multi-paragraph summary regarding a topic interesting to you. The topic you choose should be relevant to the chapters we are currently covering in the course unit . Your summary should be written so that a classmate could understand the language and develop a basic understanding of the topic content. Students may not use Wikipedia sources or ".com" sites. Only ".gov", ".edu", and ".org" sites are acceptable.

Format: Each assignment should include:

  1. strict adherence to APA format (you may visit APA Research Style Crib Sheet for more help).
  2. your multi-paragraph summary of the topic.
  3. the printed web pages used to create your paper.
  4. one rubric to score your paper (available on the website). Make certain to read the rubric!!!!
  5. this printed list of instructions.

Deductions: Point are deducted as follows:

  • If the topic is not relevant to the chapters of the unit we are covering, you will not receive any credit for that paper.
  • If you plagiarize your paper, you will not receive credit for that paper.
  • No listing of web addresses = -3 points.
  • No printed web pages submitted = -15 points.
  • No rubric = -1 point.
  • APA style violations = -1 point per violation.
  • Late papers = -3 points per day (weekends included).

Reminders:

  • Make certain to discuss issues of diversity in your paper.
  • You will submit your paper by e-mail, but I expect you to hand in your printed web pages and rubric on the date due.
  • Check and double-check your papers for spelling and grammar.
  • Proofread !!!
  • Your summaries should inform your reader about the topic, and not describe the content of each web site ("Site 1 said. . . Site 2 said. . . ).
Rough drafts: If you decide to e-mail a rough draft of your paper to me, please make sure you have done as much of the above as possible. It will help me return your paper quickly.
Additional help: I keep a folder in my office of papers that I thought were excellent.  Please come by if you would like to look at the papers of other students.
