STUDY GUIDE to accompany text

GENERAL OBJECTIVES: Practical goals include helping students complete a prerequisite for Anatomy, Microbiology, etc. This also satisfies a requirement for graduation. Other goals include helping students acquire a better understanding of and an appreciation for the tremendous changes which are occurring due to the application of biological techniques in today’s society.

GRADING: During the lecture part of the course 4 tests will be administered. The average of these tests will be valued at 75% of the course grade. At the end of the semester a comprehensive final exam will be given. This exam is optional. If taken, the exam grade will replace the lowest of the 4 lecture test grades. The lab average will count as 25% of the course grade.+

Please note these two points. One, makeup work will not be given except for EMERGENCIES. Work which is missed will be assigned a grade of zero. Second, I do not give points for attendance! You have made a commitment to this course and your presence during all classes is expected. If you must miss class or lab be careful to read the appropriate chapter(s), copy notes from another student, use the internet resources which I have provided. After that see me for help and to ask questions.

Course averages at 90% and above are an "A"; averages from 80 to 89% are a "B"; averages from 70 to 79% are a "C"; averages from 60 to 69% are a "D". All averages below a 60% are a "F".

NOTE: Lab Sciences are generally considered to be difficult courses and my tests are fairly rigorous. Therefore, it is important that you STUDY REGULARLY. Remember, before class each night I am available to help you by answering questions and reexplaining material. I check the email address given above regularly. If you have questions, ASK! The responsibility for learning is yours. However, I will gladly help make your learning experience easier. ASK!!

COURTESY demands that telephones, radios, beepers, and other similar devices which disturb class be turned off while in class. Likewise, all students are expected to arrive on time in order to avoid class disruptions.
