We are seeking grant support from several funding agencies. Funding, if acquired, will be used primarily to support research efforts and dissemination to other schools.
Partner Schools
We are seeking other community colleges in Maryland that would like to develop their own ALPs
We are also seeking additional schools including four-year schools and schools outside of Maryland who are interested in developing ALP courses
2009-2010
Offer 40 sections of ALP to 320 students
Work with partner schools to plan their ALPs for fall 2010
Revise and expand handbook for teaching ALP
Improve techniques dealing with behavioral issues and grammar, punctuation, & usage
Conduct surveys of students
Collect data on persistence and success, including long term persistence and degree completion
Conduct focus groups
Faculty reports on behavioral issues
Presentations proposed for the following conferences
Council of Writing Program Administrators (Minneapolis, MN)
National Association for Developmental Education (Columbus, OH)
CCCC (Louisville, KY)
League for Innovation (Baltimore, MD)
Conduct Summer Institute on Accelerated Learning
Propose permanent status for ALP at CCBC
2010-2011
Offer 80 sections of ALP at CCBC
Conduct random assignment study in fall 2010
Partner schools offer first pilot sections
Work with additional partner schools to plan for pilot sections in fall 2011
