ARTS 291, 292, 293: Independent Study

Independent Study is designed for students who are prepared to pursue individual creative projects. Meetings and criticism are individually contracted with the instructor. The course can be taken for one, two, or three credits. Note that photography students signed up for Independent Study have Open Lab privileges.

Students need to contact me after they develop a general idea of what they would like to do for their project. Once the project has been agreed to, students need to download and complete the Independent Study Request and Contract forms.

Although the college will accept Independent Study students during late registration, it is always best to get the paperwork in the pipeline as soon as possible.

Independent Study step-by-step check list:

1. Generate a project that will challenge your artistic and/or technical skills.

2. Contact instructor for review and revision of your project. Have tentative project proposal typewritten beforehand, as a word file on a disk would be even better. Sample Proposal

3. Complete the Request and Contract forms. See below for a free expander utility if you can not open the above document form link on your computer desktop. In addition, printed forms can be picked up in Division Office, H314, during regular office hours.

4. Sign and date forms and have instructor sign both forms.

5. Drop off forms to Division Office, H314, for Division Dean and Art Department Chairman signatures. You may have to leave forms with one of the secretaries for the appropriate signatures. This can take a couple of days so be patient. Both forms must be signed by all parties before student can register.

6. Return and pick up forms when instructed to do so.

7. Take contract to Registration and sign up for the course.

8. Get busy!!!
