Selected by the City of Baltimores Civic Design Commission to
design a wall mural depicting the life and accomplishments of Thomas Jefferson
for the Thomas Jefferson Elementary School. Installed in 1997, the mural consists
of five 5' x 4' framed panels. Each panel examines a significant time period
in Jefferson's life. Using original artwork and images from the public domain,
the mural was designed on a Macintosh computer and the digital files were
then coverted to photographic print material.
Hold the distinction of being the only visual artist to be named to
the three major regional photographic surveys: Photo Baltimore '77, 1977;
Photographic Survey of Maryland, 1979; and North Avenue Legacy, 1988. Each
selection was a highly competitive position juried by respected panels and
committees.
Commissioned by the Mass Transit Administration of Maryland Arts Panel
to design a permanent photographic mural for the Mondawmin Station of the
Baltimore Subway System. Located above the mezzanine pedestrian level, the
mural encompasses
three 10 X 12 light boxes and consists of backlit, translucent
3M Panaflex outdoor advertising material. Titled Archetype, the mural of abstract
human faces was installed in 1983.
First Maryland-born artist to be given a one-man photographic show
at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Exhibited in 1976, several images from the
Rites of Passage series are now part of the museum's permanent collection.
