General Comments

This is an online distance learning course.   We do not meet in a traditional face to face classroom setting.  You do not need to come to the college except to take the Final Exam during final exam week or to meet with the instructor during posted office hours (see Instructor Information page).

Students must complete all course requirements in the appropriate sequence and in a timely manner as posted in the Content folder.   You should visit the Blackboard online classroom every day to check mail, read announcements and discussion board postings and complete assignments and quizzes.

Announcements

This is the tool that I will use to communicate with you as a class.  Any updates, changes, errors, notices, reminders etc. will be posted in Announcements.  You will see the current Announcements listed under the Course Name every time you log into Blackboard.

You are responsible for reading all announcements posted by the instructor.  Check announcements each time you log in to Blackboard making sure to read all announcements posted since the last time you logged in.

Communication

The best way to communicate with me is through Blackboard email.  If you do not have access to Blackboard you may contact me through my office email at rkumar@ccbcmd.edu .  Please be sure to reference your class and section, for example, CINS 155 WEI.  Except for Saturdays, Sundays and holidays I will normally respond to email within 48 hours.

You may also post your questions to the Blackboard Discussion Board.  General questions should be posted under the Cyber Cafe topic heading.

Discussion Board

Participation in online discussions is recommended.  The purpose of the discussions is to stimulate study and discussion of the weekly reading assignments. For each chapter reading you should post your questions and observations on the discussion board.

Assignments

All assigned exercises must be completed as assigned and submitted according to the due date.  See the Course Schedule for a list of the due dates.  All assignments will be posted in the Course Content folder for the week assigned.   Work is assigned on a Monday and is due by midnight the following Sunday. Late assignments will be accepted up to one week past the due date but only for partial credit - a 50% penalty will be applied. Please note that assignments will be removed from your view seven days after the due date.

Click on the assignment name to access the submission box. You are only allowed one attempt per assignment so make sure that your assignment is complete before you hit the Submit button. You can always save your assignment as a Draft if you are not ready to turn it in.

Do NOT submit Word Perfect files - these files cannot be opened by me through Bb.  Files submitted must be Word files, PPT files, PDF files or files in rich text format, .rtf.  A grade will not be given if files are submitted in a format other than those outlined above. For directions on how to Create Rich Text format (.rtf) files using your word processing program see instructions posted in the Student Resource folder.

Assignments are graded after the due date and will be returned to you within 7 days of the due date. You can review the grade received and instructor comments through the My Grades page. Most assignments have a Grading Form which you should review for each assignment to get feedback on the assignment.

Quizzes

You will be assigned a Practice Quiz every week. All assigned quizzes must be completed as assigned and submitted according to the due date. See the Course Schedule for a list of the due dates.  All quizzes will be posted in the Course Content folder for the week assigned.
