Ghost World: Thora
Birth, Scarlett Johansson, and Steve Buscemi star in this film about 2
highly sarcastic, rebellious high school students who try to find their
way after graduation. The plot works o.k., but loses steam somewhere
in the middle. The acting is good, with Buscemi's social misfit record
collector being the highlight. Rating 2.5
out of 4. (8/26/01)

Ghosts of Mars: Ice
Cube and Natasha Henstridge star in this average piece of work by John
Carpenter. The movie is told in flashback as a ghostly force slowly
takes over the Earth colony on Mars. This film felt like a movie
version of "Resident Evil" as the characters make their way though the
colony waiting for something to attack them. Rating 2
out of 4. (8/25/01)

The Grinch: Jim
Carrey is the only highlight in this Dr. Seuss' inspired story. This
film is definitely Ron Howard's directorial low. If you love Carrey,
the movie is average; if you hate Carrey, the movie is horrible.
Rating 1.5 out
of 4. (1/26/01)

The Gift: This
film is well-acted, and like "SlingBlade", Billy Bob Thorton writes a good
script about a small town in the south. The plot involves a fortune
teller who is in the center of a murder mystery. The only reason
the rating is not higher is that the movie follows the general "thriller"
ending. Rating 3
out of 4. (1/20/01)
